Children’s Book Week

Children’s Book Week is the first week in May (May 2nd to 8th)

Join us for these special events!

Monday, May 2
4:00 pm: It’s the Rocky Horror Shrek Show!
When one is at the movies, the polite thing is to be quiet, but here you are encouraged to talk! Join us as we watch the first “Shrek” complete with subtitles and props! Recite your favorite parts, sing the songs and enjoy an ogre sized afternoon!

Tuesday, May 3
All Day: Library Scavenger Hunt
Can you find all of the things on the list? Complete the hunt for special prizes!

Wednesday, May 4
4:00 pm: The library has a special guest for Stop, Drop and Craft!! Local author and illustrator Amy Ignatow will be doing a drawing and comics workshop as well as discussing her book, The Popularity Papers.

Thursday May 5

10:30 am: Polskie Bajki. Join us for our monthly bilingual storytime as Ms. Margaret and Ms. Rachee reads stories in Polish and English.

Friday, May 6
3:00 pm: Get ready for Free Comic Book Day (the first Saturday in May) by swapping comics with library friends, playing the Wii, or joining us for board games. Bring your own systems to play while you wait! Please get your parent’s permission to bring your system!

Summer Things!

Book a trip and let reading take you around the globe and beyond during our Summer Reading Program! This year our themes are One World, May Stories (for children aged infant through children entering 5th grade) and You are Here (for children entering grades 6-12) is your passport to journey of books.

Registration beings online or at the library starting May 28th.

The Lansdowne Library is looking into video game rentals!

Lansdowne Public Library afterhours presents ‘Meet the Author’
On Friday, April 29 at 7:00 PM, at the Lansdowne Public Library afterhours, there will be a special event: meet the author, Stephanie Cowell.

The author of Claude & Camille will talk about the creation of the novel from research and creative imagination, and read short scenes from the story.

The presentation will conclude with a lively audience discussion. Signed copies of the novel will be available for purchase.

Before meeting the author join the Thursday Night Book Club on April 14, 2011 for a discussion of Claude & Camille by Stephanie Cowell.

>Children’s Book Week is Coming!

>Children’s Book Week, May 2nd through May 8th, is the national celebration of books and reading for youth.

Since 1919, Children’s Book Week has been celebrated countrywide with author & illustrator appearances, parties, storytelling, and other book-related events in schools, libraries, bookstores, clubs — anywhere where kids and books connect.

We are celebrating all week long with these events:

Book Bunch is a book discussion group for the youngest readers. Children ages 4-7 are invited to read and create a craft based on familiar and new picture books. New readers and crafters are always welcome!
